Rhyme Scheme: ABBA CDDC EFFE GHHG IJJI KIIKTalk not of sad November when a day | A |
Of warm glad sunshine fills the sky of noon | B |
And a wind borrowed from some morn of June | B |
Stirs the brown grasses and the leafless spray | A |

On the unfrosted pool the pillared pines | C |
Lay their long shafts of shadow the small rill | D |
Singing a pleasant song of summer still | D |
A line of silver down the hill slope shines | C |
- | |
Hushed the bird voices and the hum of bees | E |
In the thin grass the crickets pipe no more | F |
But still the squirrel hoards his winter store | F |
And drops his nut shells from the shag bark trees | E |
- | |
Softly the dark green hemlocks whisper high | G |
Above the spires of yellowing larches show | H |
Where the woodpecker and home loving crow | H |
And jay and nut hatch winter s threat defy | G |
- | |
O gracious beauty ever new and old | I |
O sights and sounds of nature doubly dear | J |
When the low sunshine warns the closing year | J |
Of snow blown fields and waves of Arctic cold | I |
- | |
Close to my heart I fold each lovely thing | K |
The sweet day yields and not disconsolate | I |
With the calm patience of the woods I wait | I |
For leaf and blossom when God gives us Spring | K |
