The Candle Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGE HIJHKLML LMNMNJLJ OJCJLLLL

Time like a cloudA
Has risen from the EastB
And whelmed the sky overC
Even to the wide arched WestD
Darkening the blueE
Embrowning the early goldF
Until no more the eternal SunG
Looks simply throughE
-
In each man's eyesH
The cloud is setI
With but the chill lightJ
Of silver January skiesH
On each man's heartK
Time's firm shadow fallsL
And the mind throws but a candle's beamM
On the dark wallsL
-
But on those wallsL
Man paints his dreamM
Rejoicing purelyN
In the faithful candle's beamM
Lives by its beautyN
Pictures his heart's delightJ
And with that only beam outbravesL
Time's gathering nightJ
-
O spiritual flameO
Calm faithful brightJ
Time may whelm overC
All but this candle's lightJ
Shadow but shadow isL
Dark though it liesL
'Tis blazon'd with man's long dreamed dreamsL
Pierced by his eyesL
