Ten O'clock And Four O'clock Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEEFGHCACIGJKLMBN OPQRSH BIt stands there | A |
Tall and solitary on the edge | B |
Of the last hill green on the green hill | C |
Ten o'clock the tree's called no one knows why | D |
Perhaps it was planted there at ten o'clock | E |
Or someone was hanged there at ten o'clock | E |
A hundred such good reasons might be found | F |
But no one knows It vexed me that none knew | G |
Seeing it miles and miles off and then nearer | H |
And nearer yet until beneath the hill | C |
I looked up up and saw it nodding there | A |
A single tree upon the sharp edged hill | C |
Holding its leaves though in the orchard all | I |
Leaves and fruit were stripped or hung but few | G |
Red and yellow over the littered grass | J |
It vexed me the brave tree and senseless name | K |
As I went through the valley looking up | L |
And then looked round on elm and beech and chestnut | M |
And all that lingering flame amid the hedge | B |
That marked the miles and miles | N |
Then I forgot | O |
For through the apple orchard's shadow I saw | P |
Between the dark boughs of the cherry orchard | Q |
A great slow fire which Time had lit to burn | R |
The mortal seasons up and leave bare black | S |
Unchanging Winter | H |
- | |
Weston sub Edge | B |
