Rhyme Scheme: ABCDDD EFGHHH IJKLLL MNGOOO PQRSSS

O what insect is itA
That burrows in the heart and fretsB
The heart's near nervesC
Leaving its uncleanD
Stigmata in the mind sereneD
Making the proud how meanD
-
It is not common hateE
Anger has not such deadly cunningF
To annul to chillG
Wild anger is notH
So cunning even while so hotH
Hate is too soon forgotH
-
There is no sword so sharpI
With lightnings as the wanton tongueJ
Nothing that burns like wordsK
Bubbling flames that spreadL
In the now unspiritual headL
By sleepless fevers fedL
-
O evil words that areM
The knives of desolating thoughtN
And though words be stillG
The hot eyes yet dartO
Burning deaths from this mad heartO
Into that torn heartO
-
O Love forget forgetP
Put by that glittering edge put byQ
Slay the insect with lightR
Smother that smoky glowS
Scatter the silver ash like snowS
When thy spring airs blowS
