O thou my MuseA
Beside the Kentish River runningB
Through water meads where dewsA
Tossed flashing at thy feetC
And tossing flashed againD
When the timid herdE
By thy swift passing stirredE
Up leapt and ranF
-
Thou that didst fleetC
Thy shadow over dark October hillsG
By Aston Weston Saintbury WillerseyG
Winchcombe and all the combes and hillsG
Of the green lonely landH
-
Thou that in MayI
Once when I saw thee sunningB
Thyself so lovely thereJ
Than the flushed flower more fairJ
Fallen from the wild apple sprayI
Didst rise and sprinkling sunlight with thy handH
Shadow like disappear in the deep shadowy hedgesG
Between forsaken Buckle Street and the sparse sedgesG
Of young twin breasted HoneybourneF
-
O thou my MuseG
Scarce longer seen than the brief huesG
Of winter cloud that flamesG
Over the tarnished silver ThamesG
So often nearingB
As often disappearingB
With thy body's shadow brushingB
My brain at midnight lightly touchingB
O yield thee Muse to meK
No more in dream delights and morn forgettingsG
But in a ferny hollow I know wellL
And thou know'st well warm proof'd 'gainst the wind's frettingsG
Bring thou thyself and thereJ
In that warm ferny hollow where the sunF
Slants one gold beam and no light else but thineF
And my eyes' happy shineF
There O lovely MuseG
Shall on thy shining body be begotM
Fruit of delights a many mingling in oneF
Thy child and mine a lovely shape and thoughtM
My child and thineF
O Muse divineF
