Earth To Earth Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGHHIIII II| What is the soul Is it the wind | A |
| Among the branches of the mind | A |
| Is it the sea against Time's shore | B |
| Breaking and broken evermore | B |
| Is it the shore that breaks Time's sea | C |
| The verge of vast Eternity | C |
| And in the night is it the soul | D |
| Sleep needs must hush must needs kiss whole | D |
| Or does the soul secure from sleep | E |
| Safe its bright sanctities yet keep | E |
| And oh before the body's death | F |
| Shall the confined soul ne'er gain breath | F |
| But ever to this serpent flesh | G |
| Subdue its alien self afresh | G |
| Is it a bird that shuns earth's night | H |
| Or makes with song earth's darkness bright | H |
| Is it indeed a thought of God | I |
| Or merest clod fellow to clod | I |
| A thought of God and yet subdued | I |
| To any passion's apish mood | I |
| Itself a God and yet O God | I |
| As like to earth as clod to clod | I |
