TIR Choose the darkest part o' th' groveA
Such as ghosts at noonday loveB
Dig a trench and dig it nighC
Where the bones of Laius lieC
Altars raised of turf or stoneD
Will th' infernal powers have noneE
Answer me if this be doneE
-
ALL PR 'Tis doneE
-
TIR Is the sacrifice made fitF
Draw her backward to the pitF
Draw the barren heifer backG
Barren let her be and blackG
-
Cut the curl'd hair that growsH
Full betwixt her horns and browsI
And turn your faces from the sunE
Answer me if this be doneE
-
ALL PR 'Tis doneE
-
TIR Pour in blood and blood like wineJ
To Mother Earth and ProserpineJ
Mingle milk into the streamK
Feast the ghosts that love the steamK
Snatch a brand from funeral pileL
Toss it in to make them boilM
And turn your faces from the sunJ
Answer me if this be doneJ
-
ALL PR 'Tis doneJ
