Hymn For St. John's Eve, 29th June Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCC AADD EEFF GHII

O sylvan prophet whose eternal fameA
Echoes from Judah's hills and Jordan's streamB
The music of our numbers raiseC
And tune our voices to thy praiseC
-
A messenger from high Olympus cameA
To bear the tidings of thy life and nameA
And told thy sire each prodigyD
That Heaven designed to work in theeD
-
Hearing the news and doubting in surpriseE
His falt'ring speech in fettered accent diesE
But Providence with happy choiceF
In thee restored thy father's voiceF
-
In the recess of Nature's dark abodeG
Though still enclosed yet knewest thou thy GodH
Whilst each glad parent told and blessedI
The secrets of each other's breastI
