Epilogue To Amboyna. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCDEEFFGGHHIJGGBB HH

A Poet once the Spartans led to fightA
And made them conquer in the muse's rightA
So would our poet lead you on this dayB
Showing your tortured fathers in his playB
To one well born the affront is worse and moreC
When he's abused and baffled by a boorD
With an ill grace the Dutch their mischiefs doE
They've both ill nature and ill manners tooE
Well may they boast themselves an ancient nationF
For they were bred ere manners were in fashionF
And their new commonwealth has set them freeG
Only from honour and civilityG
Venetians do not more uncouthly rideH
Than did their lubber state mankind bestrideH
Their sway became them with as ill a mienI
As their own paunches swell above their chinJ
Yet is their empire no true growth but humourG
And only two kings' touch can cure the tumourG
As Cato did his Afric fruits displayB
So we before your eyes their Indies layB
All loyal English will like him concludeH
Let C sar live and Carthage be subduedH
