Epilogue To "albion And Albanius." Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCDEFGGHHIIJJKKLM IINNOOPPQRSSTT

After our sop's fable shown to dayA
I come to give the moral of the playA
Feign'd Zeal you saw set out the speedier paceB
But the last heat Plain Dealing won the raceB
Plain Dealing for a jewel has been knownC
But ne'er till now the jewel of a crownD
When Heaven made man to show the work divineE
Truth was His image stamp'd upon the coinF
And when a king is to a god refinedG
On all he says and does he stamps his mindG
This proves a soul without alloy and pureH
Kings like their gold should every touch endureH
To dare in fields is valour but how fewI
Dare be so thoroughly valiant to be trueI
The name of great let other kings affectJ
He's great indeed the prince that is directJ
His subjects know him now and trust him moreK
Than all their kings and all their laws beforeK
What safety could their public acts affordL
Those he can break but cannot break his wordM
So great a trust to him alone was dueI
Well have they trusted whom so well they knewI
The saint who walk'd on waves securely trodN
While he believed the beckoning of his GodN
But when his faith no longer bore him outO
Began to sink as he began to doubtO
Let us our native character maintainP
'Tis of our growth to be sincerely plainP
To excel in truth we loyally may striveQ
Set privilege against prerogativeR
He plights his faith and we believe him justS
His honour is to promise ours to trustS
Thus Britain's basis on a word is laidT
As by a word the world itself was madeT
