Epilogue On The Same Occasion (princess Of Cleves) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCDDEFGGHHIIJJHHKK LLMMNNOOPQRSTTHHUUVV HHHHWWHH

New ministers when first they get in placeA
Must have a care to please and that's our caseA
Some laws for public welfare we designB
If you the power supreme will please to joinC
There are a sort of prattlers in the pitD
Who either have or who pretend to witD
These noisy sirs so loud their parts rehearseE
That oft the play is silenced by the farceF
Let such be dumb this penalty to shunG
Each to be thought my lady's eldest sonG
But stay methinks some vizard mask I seeH
Cast out her lure from the mid galleryH
About her all the fluttering sparks are rangedI
The noise continues though the scene is changedI
Now growling sputtering wauling such a clutterJ
'Tis just like puss defendant in a gutterJ
Fine love no doubt but ere two days are o'er yeH
The surgeon will be told a woful storyH
Let vizard mask her naked face exposeK
On pain of being thought to want a noseK
Then for your lacqueys and your train besideL
By whate'er name or title dignifiedL
They roar so loud you'd think behind the stairsM
Tom Dove and all the brotherhood of bearsM
They're grown a nuisance beyond all disastersN
We've none so great but their unpaying mastersN
We beg you Sirs to beg your men that theyO
Would please to give you leave to hear the playO
Next in the playhouse spare your precious livesP
Think like good Christians on your bearns and wivesQ
Think on your souls but by your lugging forthR
It seems you know how little they are worthS
If none of these will move the warlike mindT
Think on the helpless whore you leave behindT
We beg you last our scene room to forbearH
And leave our goods and chattels to our careH
Alas our women are but washy toysU
And wholly taken up in stage employsU
Poor willing tits they are but yet I doubtV
This double duty soon will wear them outV
Then you are watched besides with jealous careH
What if my lady's page should find you thereH
My lady knows t' a tittle what there's in yeH
No passing your gilt shilling for a guineaH
Thus gentlemen we have summed up in shortW
Our grievances from country town and courtW
Which humbly we submit to your good pleasureH
But first vote money then redress at leisureH
