Upon The Horse And His Rider Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEE F GGEEHHIJEEKKDDEELMNN EEOOPPEE

There's one rides very sagely on the roadA
Showing that he affects the gravest modeA
Another rides tantivy or full trotB
To show much gravity he matters notB
Lo here comes one amain he rides full speedC
Hedge ditch nor miry bog he doth not heedC
One claws it up hill without stop or checkD
Another down as if he'd break his neckD
Now every horse has his especial guiderE
Then by his going you may know the riderE

Now let us turn our horse into a manG
His rider to a spirit if we canG
Then let us by the methods of the guiderE
Tell every horse how he should know his riderE
Some go as men direct in a right wayH
Nor are they suffered to go astrayH
As with a bridle they are governedI
And kept from paths which lead unto the deadJ
Now this good man has his especial guiderE
Then by his going let him know his riderE
Some go as if they did not greatly careK
Whether of heaven or hell they should be heirK
The rein it seems is laid upon their neckD
They seem to go their way without a checkD
Now this man too has his especial guiderE
And by his going he may know his riderE
Some again run as if resolved to dieL
Body and soul to all eternityM
Good counsel they by no means can abideN
They'll have their course whatever them betideN
Now these poor men have their especial guiderE
Were they not fools they soon might know their riderE
There's one makes head against all godlinessO
Those too that do profess it he'll distressO
He'll taunt and flout if goodness doth appearP
And at its countenancers mock and jeerP
Now this man too has his especial guiderE
And by his going he might know his riderE
