A Boy And Watchmaker Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCDDEE F GGHHBBIIJJKL M NOPQRRIISS

This watch my father did on me bestowA
A golden one it is but 'twill not goA
Unless it be at an uncertaintyB
But as good none as one to tell a lieC
When 'tis high day my hand will stand at nineD
I think there's no man's watch so bad as mineD
Sometimes 'tis sullen 'twill not go at allE
And yet 'twas never broke nor had a fallE

WatchmakerF
-
Your watch though it be good through want of skillG
May fail to do according to your willG
Suppose the balance wheels and springs be goodH
And all things else unless you understoodH
To manage it as watches ought to beB
Your watch will still be at uncertaintyB
Come tell me do you keep it from the dustI
Yea wind it also duly up you mustI
Take heed too that you do not strain the springJ
You must be circumspect in every thingJ
Or else your watch were it as good againK
Would not with time and tide you entertainL

ComparisonM
-
This boy an emblem is of a convertN
His watch of the work of grace within his heartO
The watchmaker is Jesus Christ our LordP
His counsel the directions of his WordQ
Then convert if thy heart be out of frameR
Of this watchmaker learn to mend the sameR
Do not lay ope' thy heart to worldly dustI
Nor let thy graces over grow with rustI
Be oft' renewed in the' spirit of thy mindS
Or else uncertain thou thy watch wilt findS
