Wheat Grains Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AA BBCC DD EE FGH FIIJJKK FLL FFF FMMNN LOP LF Q

AS grains from chaff I sift these worldly rulesA
Kernels of wisdom from the husks of schoolsA
-
-
I-
Benevolence befits the wisest mindB
But he who has not studied to be kindB
Who grants for asking gives without a ruleC
Hurts whom he helps and proves himself a foolC
-
-
II-
The wise man is sincere but he who triesD
To be sincere hap hazard is not wiseD
-
-
III-
Knowledge is gold to him who can discernE
That he who loves to know must love to learnE
-
-
IVF
Straightforward speech is very certain goodG
But he who has not learned its rule is rudeH
-
-
VF
Boldness and firmness these are virtues eachI
Noble in action excellent in speechI
But who is bold without considerate skillJ
Rashly rebels and has no law but willJ
While he called firm illiterate and crassK
With mulish stubbornness obstructs the passK
-
-
VIF
The mean of soul are sure their faults to glossL
And find a secret gain in others' lossL
-
-
VIIF
Applause the bold man wins respect the graveF
Some only being not modest think they're braveF
-
-
VIIIF
The petty wrong doer may escape unseenM
But what from sight the moon eclipsed shall screenM
Superior minds must err in sight of menN
Their eclipse o'er they rule the world againN
-
-
IXL
Temptation waits for all and ills will comeO
But some go out and ask the devil homeP
-
-
XL
'I love God ' said the saint God spake aboveF
'Who loveth me must love those whom I love '-
'I scourge myself ' the hermit cried God spakeQ
'Kindness is prayer but not a self made ache '-
