Unspoken Words Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IJIJKLKL MNMNOPQP

THE kindly words that rise within the heartA
And thrill it with their sympathetic toneB
But die ere spoken fail to play their partA
And claim a merit that is not their ownB
The kindly word unspoken is a sinC
A sin that wraps itself in purest guiseD
And tells the heart that doubting looks withinC
That not in speech but thought the virtue liesD
-
But 'tis not so another heart may thirstE
For that kind word as Hagar in the wildF
Poor banished Hagar prayed a well might burstE
From out the sand to save her parching childF
And loving eyes that cannot see the mindG
Will watch the expected movement of the lipH
Ah can ye let its cutting silence windG
Around that heart and scathe it like a whipH
-
Unspoken words like treasures in the mineI
Are valueless until we give them birthJ
Like unfound gold their hidden beauties shineI
Which God has made to bless and gild the earthJ
How sad 'twould be to see a master's handK
Strike glorious notes upon a voiceless luteL
But oh what pain when at God's own commandK
A heart string thrills with kindness but is muteL
-
Then hide it not the music of the soulM
Dear sympathy expressed with kindly voiceN
But let it like a shining river rollM
To deserts dry to hearts that would rejoiceN
Oh let the symphony of kindly wordsO
Sound for the poor the friendless and the weakP
And he will bless you he who struck these chordsQ
Will strike another when in turn you seekP
