The dead who died for IrelandA
Oh these are living wordsB
To nerve the hearts of patriotsC
to steel avenging swordsD
They thrill the soul when spokenE
and lowly bend the headF
With reverence for the memoriesG
of all our martyred deadF
-
The dead who died for IrelandA
the noble ones the bestH
Who gave their lives for MotherlandI
Who poured upon her breastH
In Freedom's cause the blood she gaveJ
Who with their dying breathK
Sent prayers to God to heal her woesL
then sealed their love in deathK
-
The dead who died for IrelandA
How hallowed are their gravesM
With all the memories fresh and greenN
Oh how could we be slavesM
How could we patient clang the chainO
How could we fawn and bowP
How could we crouch like mongrelsM
'neath the keeper's frowning browP
-
Be proud ye men of IrelandA
Be proud of those who diedQ
Never men o'er all the earthR
Had greater cause for prideQ
Hope and strive and league for freedomS
And again the souls will riseM
Of the dead who died for IrelandA
To cheer you to the prizeM
