Mary Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD E EA FGFG HIHI JKJK

DEAR honored name beloved for human tiesA
But loved and honored first that One was givenB
In living proof to erring mortal eyesA
That our poor earth is near akin to heavenB
-
Sweet word of dual meaning one of graceC
And born of our kind advocate aboveD
And one by memory linked to that dear faceC
That blessed my childhood with its mother loveD
-
And taught me first the simple prayer 'To theeE
Poor banished sons of Eve we send our cries '-
Through mist of years those words recall to meE
A childish face upturned to loving eyesA
-
And yet to some the name of Mary bearsF
No special meaning and no gracious powerG
In that dear word they seek for hidden snaresF
As wasps find poison in the sweetest flowerG
-
But faithful hearts can see o'er doubts and fearsH
The Virgin link that binds the Lord to earthI
Which to the upturned trusting face appearsH
A more than angel though of human birthI
-
The sweet faced moon reflects on cheerless nightJ
The rays of hidden sun to rise to morrowK
So unseen God still lets His promised lightJ
Through holy Mary shine upon our sorrowK
