Her Refrain Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB ACAC DADA E FGFE

Do you love me ' she said when the skies were blueA
And we walked where the stream through the branches glistenedB
And I told and retold her my love was trueA
While she listened and smiled and smiled and listenedB
-
Do you love me ' she whispered when days were drearA
And her eyes searched mine with a patient yearningC
And I kissed her renewing the words so dearA
While she listened and smiled as if slowly learningC
-
Do you love me she asked when we sat at restD
By the stream enshadowed with autumn gloryA
Her cheek had been laid as in peace on my breastD
But she raised it to ask for the sweet old storyA
-
And I said 'I will tell her the tale againE
I will swear by the earth and the stars above me '-
And I told her that uttermost time should proveF
The fervor and faith of my perfect loveG
And I vowed it and pledged it that nought should moveF
While she listened and smiled in my face and thenE
She whispered once more ' Do you truly love me '-
