HAND in hand and lip to lipA
-
Oh be faithful maiden dearB
Fare thee well thy lover's shipA
-
Past full many a rock must steersC
But should he the haven seeD
-
When the storm has ceased to breakE
And be happy reft of theeD
-
May the Gods fierce vengeance takeE
-
Boldly dared is well nigh wonF
-
Half my task is solved arightG
Ev'ry star's to me a sunF
-
Only cowards deem it nightG
Stood I idly by thy sideG
-
Sorrow still would sadden meD
But when seas our paths divideG
-
Gladly toil I toil for theeD
-
Now the valley I perceiveH
-
Where together we will goI
And the streamlet watch each eveH
-
Gliding peacefully belowI
Oh the poplars on yon spotG
-
Oh the beech trees in yon groveJ
And behind we'll build a cotG
-
Where to taste the joys of loveK
