TRANSPLANT the beauteous treeA
Gardener it gives me painB
A happier resting placeC
Its trunk deservedD
-
Yet the strength of its natureE
To Earth's exhausting avariceF
To Air's destructive inroadsG
An antidote opposedH
-
See how it in springtimeI
Coins its pale green leavesJ
Their orange fragranceK
Poisons each flyblow straightL
-
The caterpillar's toothM
Is blunted by themN
With silv'ry hues they gleamO
In the bright sunshineP
-
Its twigs the maidenQ
Fain would twine inR
Her bridal garlandS
Youths its fruit are seekingT
-
See the autumn comethU
The caterpillarE
Sighs to the crafty spiderE
Sighs that the tree will not fadeV
-
Hov'ring thitherE
From out her yew tree dwellingT
The gaudy foe advancesW
Against the kindly treeE
-
And cannot hurt itX
But the more artful oneQ
Defiles with nauseous venomY
Its silver leavesJ
-
And sees with triumphZ
How the maiden shuddersA2
The youth how mourns heE
On passing byB2
-
Transplant the beauteous treeE
Gardener it gives me painB
Tree thank the gardenerE
Who moves thee henceC2
