IA
-
Incense is hut a tribute for the godsB
To mortals 'tis but poisonC
-
The smoke that from thine altar blowsD
-
Can it the gods offendE
For I observe thou hold'st thy noseD
-
Pray what does this portendE
Mankind deem incense to excelF
-
Each other earthly thingG
So he that cannot bear its smellF
-
No incense e'er should bringG
-
With unmoved face by thee at leastH
-
To dolls is homage givenC
If not obstructed by the priestH
-
The scent mounts up to heavenC
