The Wedding Night Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BA BC DE D F GH GI JI J K LK MN ON O

WITHIN the chamber far awayA
-
From the glad feast sits Love in dreadB
Lest guests disturb in wanton playA
-
The silence of the bridal bedB
His torch's pale flame serves to gildC
-
The scene with mystic sacred glowD
The room with incense clouds is fil'dE
-
That ye may perfect rapture knowD
-
How beats thy heart when thou dost hearF
-
The chime that warns thy guests to flyG
How glow'st thou for those lips so dearH
-
That soon are mute and nought denyG
With her into the holy placeI
-
Thou hast'nest then to perfect allJ
The fire the warder's hands embraceI
-
Grows like a night light dim and smallJ
-
How heaves her bosom and how burnsK
-
Her face at every fervent kissL
Her coldness now to trembling turnsK
-
Thy daring now a duty isM
Love helps thee to undress her fastN
-
But thou art twice as fast as heO
And then he shuts both eye at lastN
-
With sly and roguish modestyO
