The Violet Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AB CDDB C EF GHHF G II JKKI J

UPON the mead a violet stoodA
Retiring and of modest moodB
-
In truth a violet fairC
Then came a youthful shepherdessD
And roam'd with sprightly joyousnessD
And blithely woo'dB
-
With carols sweet the airC
-
Ah thought the violet had I beenE
For but the smallest moment e'enF
-
Nature's most beauteous flowerG
'Till gather'd by my love and press'dH
When weary 'gainst her gentle breastH
For e'en for e'enF
-
One quarter of an hourG
-
Alas alas the maid drew nighI
The violet failed to meet her eyeI
-
She crush'd the violet sweetJ
It sank and died yet murmur'd notK
And if I die oh happy lotK
For her I dieI
-
And at her very feetJ
