ON yonder lofty mountainA
-
A thousand times I standB
And on my staff recliningC
-
Look down on the smiling landB
-
My grazing flocks then I followD
-
My dog protecting them wellE
I find myself in the valleyF
-
But how I scarcely can tellE
-
The whole of the meadow is cover'dG
-
With flowers of beauty rareH
I pluck them but pluck them unknowingC
-
To whom the offering to bearH
-
In rain and storm and tempestI
-
I tarry beneath the treeF
But closed remaineth yon portalJ
-
'Tis all but a vision to meF
-
High over yonder dwellingC
-
There rises a rainbow gayK
But she from home hath departedL
-
And wander'd far far awayK
-
Yes far away bath she wander'dG
-
Perchance e'en over the seaF
Move onward ye sheep then move onwardG
-
Full sad the shepherd must beF
