The Rat-catcher Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD EEFFGGHH IIJKLLMM

I AM the bard known far and wideA
The travell'd rat catcher besideA
A man most needful to this townB
So glorious through its old renownB
However many rats I seeC
How many weasels there may beC
I cleanse the place from ev'ry oneD
All needs must helter skelter runD
-
Sometimes the bard so full of cheerE
As a child catcher will appearE
Who e'en the wildest captive bringsF
Whene'er his golden tales he singsF
However proud each boy in heartG
However much the maidens startG
I bid the chords sweet music makeH
And all must follow in my wakeH
-
Sometimes the skillful bard ye viewI
In the form of maiden catcher tooI
For he no city enters e'erJ
Without effecting wonders thereK
However coy may be each maidL
However the women seem afraidL
Yet all will love sick be ere longM
To sound of magic lute and songM
