The Musagetes Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCDAEFFCCG HBIJAIFKJGFLICI AIIAIMIIIMBINIIAIGO

IN the deepest nights of WinterA
To the Muses kind oft cried IB
Not a ray of morn is gleamingC
Not a sign of daylight breakingC
Bring then at the fitting momentD
Bring the lamp's soft glimm'ring lustreA
'Stead of Phoebus and AuroraE
To enliven my still laboursF
Yet they left me in my slumbersF
Dull and unrefreshing lyingC
And to each late waken'd morningC
Follow'd days devoid of profitG
-
When at length return'd the spring timeH
To the nightingales thus spake IB
Darling nightingales oh beat yeI
Early early at my windowJ
Wake me from the heavy slumberA
That chains down the youth so stronglyI
Yet the love o'erflowing songstersF
Their sweet melodies protractedK
Through the night before my windowJ
Kept awake my loving spiritG
Rousing new and tender yearningsF
In my newly waken'd bosomL
And the night thus fleeted o'er meI
And Aurora found me sleepingC
Ay the sun could scarce arouse meI
-
Now at length is come the SummerA
And the early fly so busyI
Draws me from my pleasing slumbersI
At the first born morning glimmerA
Mercilessly then returns sheI
Though the half aroused one oftenM
Scares her from him with impatienceI
And she lures her shameless sistersI
So that from my weary eyelidsI
Kindly sleep ere long is drivenM
From my couch then boldly spring IB
And I seek the darling MusesI
in the beechen grove I find themN
Full of pieasure to receive meI
And to the tormenting insectsI
Owe I many a golden hourA
Thus be ye unwelcome beingsI
Highly valued by the poetG
As the flies my numbers tell ofO
