My neighbour none can e'er denyA
-
Is a most beauteous maidB
Her shop is ever in mine eyeA
-
When working at my tradeB
-
To ring and chain I hammer thenC
-
The wire of gold assay'dB
And think the while For Kate oh whenC
-
Will such a ring be madeB
-
And when she takes her shutters downD
-
Her shop at once invadeB
To buy and haggle all the townD
-
For all that's there displaydB
-
I file and maybe overfileE
-
The wire of gold assay'dB
My master grumbles all the whileE
-
Her shop the mischief madeB
-
To ply her wheel she straight beginsF
-
When not engaged in tradeB
I know full well for what she spinsF
-
'Tis hope guides that dear maidB
-
Her leg while her small foot treads onG
-
Is in my mind portray'dB
Her garter I recall anonG
-
I gave it that dear maidB
-
Then to her lips the finest threadB
-
Is by her hand convey'dB
Were I there only in its steadB
-
How I would kiss the maidB
