The Eagle And The Dove Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBCDBBABAEAABFBGHIA JKBABILMJAANNBAOPQRH SBQBTHAAAUHBB

IN search of prey once raised his pinionsA
An eagletB
A huntsman's arrow came and reftB
His right wing of all motive powerC
Headlong he fell into a myrtle groveD
For three long days on anguish fedB
In torment writhedB
Throughout three long three weary nightsA
And then was curedB
Thanks to all healing Nature'sA
Soft omnipresent balmE
He crept away from out the copseA
And stretch'd his wing alasA
Lost is all power of flightB
He scarce can lift himselfF
From off the groundB
To catch some mean unworthy preyG
And rests deep sorrowingH
On the low rock beside the streamI
Up to the oak he looksA
Looks up to heavenJ
While in his noble eye there gleams a tearK
Then rustling through the myrtle boughs beholdB
There comes a wanton pair of dovesA
Who settle down and nodding strutB
O'er the gold sands beside the streamI
And gradually approachL
Their red tinged eyes so full of loveM
Soon see the inward sorrowing oneJ
The male inquisitively social leapsA
On the next bush and looksA
Upon him kindly and complacentlyN
Thou sorrowest murmurs heN
Be of good cheer my friendB
All that is needed for calm happinessA
Hast thou not hereO
Hast thou not pleasure in the golden boughP
That shields thee from the day's fierce glowQ
Canst thou not raise thy breast to catchR
On the soft moss beside the brookH
The sun's last rays at evenS
Here thou mayst wander through the flowers' fresh dewB
Pluck from the overflowQ
The forest trees provideB
Thy choicest food mayst quenchT
Thy light thirst at the silvery springH
Oh friend true happinessA
Lies in contentednessA
And that contentednessA
Finds everywhere enoughU
Oh wise one said the eagle while he sankH
In deep and ever deep'ning thoughtB
Oh Wisdom like a dove thou speakestB
