Can the Koran from Eternity beA
-
'Tis worth not a thoughtB
Can the Koran a creation then beA
-
Of that I know noughtB
Yet that the book of all books it must beA
-
I believe as a Mussulman oughtB
That from Eternity wine though must beA
-
I ever have thoughtB
That 'twas ordain'd ere the Angels to beA
-
As a truth may be taughtB
Drinkers however these matters may beA
-
Gaze on God's face fearing noughtB
-
-
-
YE'VE often for our drunkennessC
-
Blamed us in ev'ry wayD
And in abuse of drunkennessC
-
Enough can never sayD
Men overcome by drunkennessC
-
Are wont to lie till dayD
And yet I find my drunkennessC
-
All night time make me strayD
For oh 'tis Love's sweet drunkennessC
-
That maketh me its preyD
Which night and day and day and nightB
-
My heart must needs obeyD
A heart that in its drunkennessC
-
Pours forth full many a layD
So that no trifling drunkennessC
-
Can dare assert its swayD
Love song and wine's sweet drunkennessC
-
By night time and by dayD
How god like is the drunkennessC
-
That maketh me its preyD
-
