From heaven there fell upon the foaming waveA
-
A timid drop the flood with anger roaredB
-
But God its modest boldness to rewardB
Strength to the drop and firm endurance gaveA
Its form the mussel captive tookC
-
And to its lasting glory and renownD
-
The pearl now glistens in our monarch's crownD
With gentle gleam and loving lookC
-
-
-
BULBUL'S song through night hours coldE
-
Rose to Allah's throne on highF
-
To reward her melodyG
Giveth he a cage of goldE
Such a cage are limbs of menH
-
Though at first she feels confin'dI
-
Yet when all she brings to mindI
Straight the spirit sings againH

IN the Koran with strange delightJ
A peacock's feather met my sightJ
Thou'rt welcome in this holy placeK
The highest prize on earth's wide faceK
As in the stars of heaven in theeG
God's greatness in the small we seeG
For he whose gaze whole worlds bath bless'dL
His eye hath even here impress'dL
And the light down in beauty dress'dL
So that e'en monarchs cannot hopeM
In splendour with the bird to copeM
Meekly enjoy thy happy lotN
And so deserve that holy spotN
-
-
-
ALL kinds of men both small and greatO
A fine spun web delight to createO
And in the middle they take their placeK
And wield their scissors with wondrous graceK
But if a besom should sweep that wayP
What a most shameful thing they sayP
They've crush'd a mighty palace to dayP

IT IS GOODQ
-
IN Paradise while moonbeams play'dR
-
Jehovah found in slumber deepS
Adam fast sunk He gently laidR
-
Eve near him she too fell asleepS
There lay they now on earth's fair shrineT
God's two most beauteous thoughts divineT
When this He saw He cried 'Tis GoodQ
And scarce could move from where He stoodQ
-
No wonder that our joy's completeU
While eye and eye responsive meetU
When this blest thought of rapture moves usV
That we're with Him who truly loves usV
And if He cries Good let it beG
'Tis so for both it seems to meG
Thou'rt clasp'd within these arms of mineT
Dearest of all God's thoughts divineT
