ACT IV SCENEA
-
SONG OF THE FATESB
-
-
The deities dreadC
The mastery hold theyD
In hands all eternalE
And use them unquestionedF
What manner they likeG
-
Let him fear them doublyH
Whom they have upliftedI
On cliffs and on clouds ohJ
Round tables all goldenK
he seats are made readyH
-
When rises contentionK
The guests are humid downwardsL
With shame and dishonorM
To deep depths of midnightN
And vainly await theyD
Bound fast in the darknessO
A just condemnationK
-
But they remain everM
In firmness unshakenK
Round tables all goldenK
On stride they from mountainK
To mountain far distantP
From out the abysses'O
Dark jaws the breath risesO
Of torment choked TitansO
Up tow'rds them like incenseO
In light clouds ascendingQ
-
The rulers immortalE
Avert from whole peoplesO
Their blessing fraught glancesO
And shun in the childrenK
To trace the once cherish'dR
Still eloquent featuresO
Their ancestors woreS
-
Thus chanted the ParaeS
The old man the banish'dR
In gloomy vault lyingQ
Their song overhearethD
Sons grandsons rememberethD
And shaketh his headC
