My senses ofttimes are oppress'dA
-
Oft stagnant is my bloodB
But when by Christel's sight I'm blestA
-
I feel my strength renew'dC
I see her here I see her thereD
-
And really cannot tellE
The manner how the when the whereD
-
The why I love her wellE
-
If with the merest glance I viewF
-
Her black and roguish eyesG
And gaze on her black eyebrows tooF
-
My spirit upward fliesG
Has any one a mouth so sweetH
-
Such love round cheeks as sheI
Ah when the eye her beauties meetH
-
It ne'er content can beI
-
And when in airy German danceJ
-
I clasp her form divineK
So quick we whirl so quick advanceJ
-
What rapture then like mineK
And when she's giddy and feels warmL
-
I cradle her poor thingM
Upon my breast and in mine armN
-
I'm then a very kingM
-
And when she looks with love on meI
-
Forgetting all but thisO
When press'd against my bosom sheI
-
Exchanges kiss for kissO
All through my marrow runs a thrillP
-
Runs e'en my foot alongQ
I feel so well I feel so illP
-
I feel so weak so strongQ
-
Would that such moments ne'er would endR
-
The day ne'er long I findS
Could I the night too with her spendR
-
E'en that I should not mindS
If she were in mine arms but heldT
-
To quench love's thirst I'd tryU
And could my torments not be quell'dT
-
Upon her breast would dieU
