By The River Ii Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BA B C DC E F GF H

WHEN by the broad stream thou dost dwellA
-
Oft shallow is its sluggish floodB
Then when thy fields thou tendest wellA
-
It o'er them spreads its slime and mudB
-
The ships descend ere daylight wanesC
-
The prudent fisher upward goesD
Round reef and rock ice casts its chainsC
-
And boys at will the pathway closeE
-
To this attend then carefullyF
-
And what thou wouldst that executeG
Ne'er linger ne'er o'erhasty beF
-
For time moves on with measured footH
