A
-
A wolf affirming his beliefB
That he had suffer'd by a thiefB
Brought up his neighbour foxC
Of whom it was by all confess'dD
His character was not the bestD
To fill the prisoner's boxC
As judge between these verminE
A monkey graced the ermineF
And truly other gifts of ThemisC
Did scarcely seem hisC
For while each party plead his causeC
Appealing boldly to the lawsC
And much the question vex'dG
Our monkey sat perplex'dG
Their words and wrath expendedH
Their strife at length was endedI
When by their malice taughtJ
The judge this judgment broughtJ
'Your characters my friends I long have knownK
As on this trial clearly shownK
And hence I fine you both the grounds at largeL
To state would little profitM
You wolf in short as bringing groundless chargeL
You fox as guilty of it '-
-
Come at it right or wrong the judge opinedN
No other than a villain could be finedN
