The Two Friends Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD EEFF CCGGHH

AXIOCHUS a handsome youth of oldA
And Alcibiades both gay and boldA
So well agreed they kept a beauteous belleB
With whom by turns they equally would dwellB
-
IT happened one of them so nicely playedC
The fav'rite lass produced a little maidC
Which both extolled and each his own believedD
Though doubtless one or t'other was deceivedD
-
BUT when to riper years the bantling grewE
And sought her mother's foot steps to pursueE
Each friend desired to be her chosen swainF
And neither would a parent's name retainF
-
SAID one why brother she's your very shadeC
The features are the same your looks pervadeC
Oh no the other cried it cannot beG
Her chin mouth nose and eyes with your's agreeG
But that as 'twill let me her favours winH
And for the pleasure I will risk the sinH
