The Two Asses Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAACDCDEFEGHHIIJJK KHHLLMMMMMNOON

Two asses tracking t'other dayA
Of which each in his turnB
Did incense to the other burnB
Quite in the usual wayA
I heard one to his comrade sayA
My lord do you not findC
The prince of knaves and foolsD
To be this man who boasts of mindC
Instructed in his schoolsD
With wit unseemly and profaneE
He mocks our venerable raceF
On each of his who lacketh brainE
Bestows our ancient surname assG
And with abusive tongue portrayingH
Describes our laugh and talk as brayingH
These bipeds of their folly tell usI
While thus pretending to excel usI
No 'tis for you to speak my friendJ
And let their orators attendJ
The braying is their own but let them beK
We understand each other and agreeK
And that's enough As for your songH
Such wonders to its notes belongH
The nightingale is put to shameL
The Sirens lose one half their fameL
My lord the other ass repliedM
Such talents in yourself resideM
Of asses all the joy and prideM
These donkeys not quite satisfiedM
With scratching thus each other's hideM
Must needs the cities visitN
Their fortunes there to raiseO
By sounding forth the praiseO
Each of the other's skill exquisiteN
