Rhyme Scheme: A BB CCDDEEFFGGH IJKKLLMM

A
-
The farmer's patient care and toilB
Are oftener wanting than the soilB
-
A wealthy ploughman drawing near his endC
Call'd in his sons apart from every friendC
And said 'When of your sire bereftD
The heritage our fathers leftD
Guard well nor sell a single fieldE
A treasure in it is conceal'dE
The place precisely I don't knowF
But industry will serve to showF
The harvest past Time's forelock takeG
And search with plough and spade and rakeG
Turn over every inch of sodH
Nor leave unsearch'd a single clod '-
The father died The sons and not in vainI
Turn'd o'er the soil and o'er againJ
That year their acres boreK
More grain than e'er beforeK
Though hidden money found they noneL
Yet had their father wisely doneL
To show by such a measureM
That toil itself is treasureM
