The Old Man And The Ass Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BBCCDDDDDDD DDEFGG

A
-
An old man riding on his assB
Had found a spot of thrifty grassB
And there turn'd loose his weary beastC
Old Grizzle pleased with such a feastC
Flung up his heels and caper'd roundD
Then roll'd and rubb'd upon the groundD
And frisk'd and browsed and bray'dD
And many a clean spot madeD
Arm'd men came on them as he fedD
'Let's fly ' in haste the old man saidD
'And wherefore so ' the ass repliedD
'With heavier burdens will they ride '-
'No ' said the man already startedD
'Then ' cried the ass as he departedD
'I'll stay and be no matter whoseE
Save you yourself and leave me looseF
But let me tell you ere you goG
I speak plain French you knowG
My master is my only foe '-
