The Monkey And The Cat Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABA CCDC EEFE GGHG IIJI KKLM NNON

Jocko the Monkey Mouser his chum the CatA
Had the same master Both were sleek and fatA
And mischievous If anything went wrongB
The neighbors where not blamed Be sure of thatA
-
Jocko 'tis said was something of a thiefC
Mouser if truth be told would just as liefC
Much stolen cheese as chase the midnight mouseD
The praise bestowed on either must be briefC
-
One day these rogues stretched flat before the fireE
Saw chestnuts roassting Ah Could we conspireE
To jerk them out said Jocko from the coalsF
We'd smash the shells and have our heart's desireE
-
Come Brother Mouser This day 'tis your turnG
To do some bold and desperate thing to earnG
A reputation You who are so quickH
Snatch out the nuts before they start to burnG
-
Alas That I a Monkey was not madeI
To play with fire But you are not afraidI
So Mouser pleased like many a cat or manJ
With pretty words sly Jocko's wish obeyedI
-
Into the fire he put a practiced pawK
Out came a chestnut clinging to his clawK
Another and another As they droppedL
Jocko devoured them whether roast or rawM
-
A servant enters Off the robbers runN
Jocko you may be sure enjoyed the funN
But Mouser's paw is sadly singed for whatO
Just to get nuts for Jocko He got noneN
