The Man And The Flea Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCDDEEEE FFGGH II

A
-
Impertinent we tease and weary HeavenB
With prayers which would insult mere mortals evenC
'Twould seem that not a god in all the skiesD
From our affairs must ever turn his eyesD
And that the smallest of our raceE
Could hardly eat or wash his faceE
Without like Greece and Troy for ten years' spaceE
Embroiling all Olympus in the caseE
-
A flea some blockhead's shoulder bitF
And then his clothes refused to quitF
'O Hercules ' he cried 'you ought to purgeG
This world of this far worse than hydra scourgeG
O Jupiter what are your bolts aboutH
They do not put these foes of mine to rout '-
-
To crush a flea this fellow's fingers underI
The gods must lend the fool their club and thunderI
