The Lion Grown Old Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BBCCCDEEDFEGGHH

A
-
A lion mourning in his age the waneB
Of might once dreaded through his wild domainB
Was mock'd at last upon his throneC
By subjects of his ownC
Strong through his weakness grownC
The horse his head saluted with a kickD
The wolf snapp'd at his royal hideE
The ox too gored him in the sideE
The unhappy lion sad and sickD
Could hardly growl he was so weakF
In uncomplaining stoic prideE
He waited for the hour of fateG
Until the ass approach'd his gateG
Whereat 'This is too much ' he saithH
'I willingly would yield my breathH
But ah thy kick is double death '-
