The Lion And The Monkey Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCCBDDEEFFGGBBHHHI IJKKJLLMNMNNOOPEQERR

The lion for his kingdom's sakeA
In morals would some lessons takeA
And therefore call'd one summer's dayB
The monkey master of the artsC
An animal of brilliant partsC
To hear what he could sayB
Great king the monkey thus beganD
To reign upon the wisest planD
Requires a prince to set his zealE
And passion for the public wealE
Distinctly and quite high aboveF
A certain feeling call'd self loveF
The parent of all vicesG
In creatures of all sizesG
To will this feeling from one's breast awayB
Is not the easy labour of a dayB
By that your majesty augustH
Will execute your royal trustH
From folly free and aught unjustH
Give me replied the kingI
Example of each thingI
Each species said the sageJ
And I begin with oursK
Exalts its own peculiar powersK
Above sound reason's gaugeJ
Meanwhile all other kinds and tribesL
As fools and blockheads it describesL
With other compliments as cheapM
But on the other hand the sameN
Self love inspires a beast to heapM
The highest pyramid of fameN
For every one that bears his nameN
Because he justly deems such praiseO
The easiest way himself to raiseO
'Tis my conclusion in the caseP
That many a talent here belowE
Is but cabal or sheer grimaceQ
The art of seeming things to knowE
An art in which perfection liesR
More with the ignorant than wiseR
