The Lion And The Ass Hunting Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

A
-
The king of animals with royal graceB
Would celebrate his birthday in the chaseB
'Twas not with bow and arrowsC
To slay some wretched sparrowsC
The lion hunts the wild boar of the woodD
The antlered deer and stags the fat and goodD
This time the king t' insure successE
Took for his aide de camp an assF
A creature of stentorian voiceG
That felt much honour'd by the choiceG
The lion hid him in a proper stationH
And order'd him to bray for his vocationH
Assured that his tempestuous cryI
The boldest beasts would terrifyI
And cause them from their lairs to flyI
And sooth the horrid noise the creature madeJ
Did strike the tenants of the wood with dreadK
And as they headlong fledK
All fell within the lion's ambuscadeK
'Has not my service gloriousL
Made both of us victorious '-
Cried out the much elated assF
'Yes ' said the lion 'bravely bray'dK
Had I not known yourself and raceB
I should have been myself afraid '-
If he had dared the donkeyM
Had shown himself right spunkyM
At this retort though justly madeK
For who could suffer boasts to passF
So ill befitting to an assF
