A
-
A goat a sheep and porker fatB
All to the market rode togetherC
Their own amusement was not thatB
Which caused their journey thitherC
Their coachman did not mean to 'set them down'D
To see the shows and wonders of the townD
The porker cried in piercing squealsE
As if with butchers at his heelsE
The other beasts of milder moodF
The cause by no means understoodG
They saw no harm and wonder'd whyH
At such a rate the hog should cryH
'Hush there old piggy ' said the manD
'And keep as quiet as you canD
What wrong have you to squeal aboutI
And raise this dev'lish deaf'ning shoutI
These stiller persons at your sideJ
Have manners much more dignifiedJ
Pray have you heardK
A single wordK
Come from that gentleman in woolL
That proves him wise ' 'That proves him fool '-
The testy hog repliedJ
'For did he knowD
To what we goD
He'd cry almost to split his throatM
So would her ladyship the goatM
They only think to lose with easeN
The goat her milk the sheep his fleeceO
They're maybe right but as for meP
This ride is quite another matterC
Of service only on the platterC
My death is quite a certaintyP
Adieu my dear old piggery '-
The porker's logic proved at onceQ
Himself a prophet and a dunceQ
-
Hope ever gives a present easeQ
But fear beforehand killsQ
The wisest he who least foreseesQ
Inevitable illsQ
