The Fox, The Flies, And The Hedgehog Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCCBBDDEFFGG HIIJJJB KKK BBLLLKK

A
-
A fox old subtle vigilant and slyB
By hunters wounded fallen in the mudC
Attracted by the traces of his bloodC
That buzzing parasite the flyB
He blamed the gods and wonder'd whyB
The Fates so cruelly should wishD
To feast the fly on such a costly dishD
'What light on me make me its foodE
Me me the nimblest of the woodF
How long has fox meat been so goodF
What serves my tail Is it a useless weightG
Go Heaven confound thee greedy reprobateG
And suck thy fill from some more vulgar veins '-
A hedgehog witnessing his painsH
This fretful personageI
Here graces first my pageI
Desired to set him freeJ
From such cupidityJ
'My neighbour fox ' said heJ
My quills these rascals shall empaleB
And ease thy torments without fail '-
'Not for the world my friend ' the fox repliedK
'Pray let them finish their repastK
These flies are full Should they be set asideK
New hungrier swarms would finish me at last '-
Consumers are too common here belowB
In court and camp in church and state we knowB
Old Aristotle's penetrationL
Remark'd our fable's applicationL
It might more clearly in our nationL
The fuller certain men are fedK
The less the public will be bledK
