The Fox And The Turkeys Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDCEDFFGGHHGGIIJJ GGKKLLGGMM GG

Against a robber fox a treeA
Some turkeys served as citadelB
That villain much provoked to seeA
Each standing there as sentinelC
Cried out 'Such witless birdsD
At me stretch out their necks and gobbleC
No by the powers I'll give them trouble 'E
He verified his wordsD
The moon that shined full on the oakF
Seem'd then to help the turkey folkF
But fox in arts of siege well versedG
Ransack'd his bag of tricks accursedG
He feign'd himself about to climbH
Walk'd on his hinder legs sublimeH
Then death most aptly counterfeitedG
And seem'd anon resuscitatedG
A practiser of wizard artsI
Could not have fill'd so many partsI
In moonlight he contrived to raiseJ
His tail and make it seem a blazeJ
And countless other tricks like thatG
Meanwhile no turkey slept or satG
Their constant vigilance at lengthK
As hoped the fox wore out their strengthK
Bewilder'd by the rigs he runL
They lost their balance one by oneL
As Renard slew he laid asideG
Till nearly half of them had diedG
Then proudly to his larder boreM
And laid them up an ample storeM
-
A foe by being over heededG
Has often in his plan succeededG
