A
-
From wrongs of wicked men we drawB
Excuses for our ownC
Such is the universal lawB
Would you have mercy shownC
Let yours be clearly knownC
-
A fowler's mirror served to snareD
The little tenants of the airD
A lark there saw her pretty faceE
And was approaching to the placeE
A hawk that sailed on highF
Like vapour in the skyF
Came down as still as infant's breathG
On her who sang so near her deathG
She thus escaped the fowler's steelH
The hawk's malignant claws to feelH
While in his cruel wayI
The pirate pluck'd his preyI
Upon himself the net was sprungJ
'O fowler ' pray'd he in the hawkish tongueJ
'Release me in thy clemencyK
I never did a wrong to thee '-
The man replied ''Tis trueL
And did the lark to you '-
