The Countryman Who Sought His Calf Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGHH

A COUNTRYMAN one day his calf had lostA
And seeking it a neighbouring forest crossedA
The tallest tree that in the district grewB
He climbed to get a more extensive viewB
Just then a lady with her lover cameC
The place was pleasing both to spark and dameC
Their mutual wishes looks and eyes expressedD
And on the grass the lady was caressedD
At sights of charms enchanting to the eyesE
The gay gallant exclaimed with fond surpriseE
Ye gods what striking beauties now I seeF
No objects named but spoke with anxious gleeF
The clod who on the tree had mounted highG
And heard at ease the conversation nighG
Now cried Good man who see with such delightH
Pray tell me if my calf be in your sightH
