The Ass And The Dog Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCDDEFGGHIEHJJKKFL LFMNOOPPQQLLKKRRSSFF

Along the road an ass and dogA
One master following did jogB
Their master slept meanwhile the assC
Applied his nippers to the grassC
Much pleased in such a place to stopD
Though there no thistle he could cropD
He would not be too delicateE
Nor spoil a dinner for a plateF
Which but for that his favourite dishG
Were all that any ass could wishG
My dear companion Towser saidH
'Tis as a starving dog I ask itI
Pray lower down your loaded basketE
And let me get a piece of breadH
No answer not a word indeedJ
The truth was our Arcadian steedJ
Fear'd lest for every moment's flightK
His nimble teeth should lose a biteK
At last I counsel you said he to waitF
Till master is himself awakeL
Who then unless I much mistakeL
Will give his dog the usual baitF
Meanwhile there issued from the woodM
A creature of the wolfish broodN
Himself by famine sorely pinch'dO
At sight of him the donkey flinch'dO
And begg'd the dog to give him aidP
The dog budged not but answer madeP
I counsel thee my friend to runQ
Till master's nap is fairly doneQ
There can indeed be no mistakeL
That he will very soon awakeL
Till then scud off with all your mightK
And should he snap you in your flightK
This ugly wolf why let him feelR
The greeting of your well shod heelR
I do not doubt at all but thatS
Will be enough to lay him flatS
But ere he ceased it was too lateF
The ass had met his cruel fateF
