Lapluck and Caesar brothers were descendedA
From dogs by Fame the most commendedB
Who falling in their puppyhoodB
To different masters ancientlyC
One dwelt and hunted in the boundless woodB
From thieves the other kept a kitchen freeD
At first each had another nameE
But by their bringing up it cameE
While one improved upon his natureF
The other grew a sordid creatureF
Till by some scullion called LapluckG
The name ungracious ever stuckG
To high exploits his brother grewH
Put many a stag at bay and toreI
Full many a trophy from the boarI
In short him first of all his crewH
The world as Caesar knewH
And care was had lest by a baser mateB
His noble blood should e'er degenerateB
Not so with his neglected brotherF
He made whatever came a motherF
And by the laws of populationJ
His race became a countless nationJ
The common turnspits throughout FranceK
Where danger is they don't advanceK
Precisely the antipodesK
Of what we call the Caesars theseK
-
Oft falls the son below his sire's estateB
Through want of care all things degenerateB
For lack of nursing Nature and her giftsK
What crowds from gods become mere kitchen thriftsK
